Department of French
The French Department at Bryn Mawr College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in 18th-C. studies to begin July 1, 2009.
Candidates should hold a PhD and have a well-defined teaching and research program in French 18th-C. studies with interdisciplinary interests in one or more fields that speak to the major cultural movements of the period, e.g., Enlightenment philosophy; evolving scientific discourses; (post)colonial studies, the role of women in the formation of national identity; economic theory and the rise of the bourgeoisie.
While experience in directing programs abroad is not required, the position may include the opportunity for involvement in the department's Institut d’Etudes françaises d’Avignon. Candidates must have demonstrated teaching excellence and be able to teach a broad range of courses (from beginning to graduate level) in French literature, language, and culture from a multi-disciplinary perspective. Native or near-native fluency and firm commitment to language teaching at all levels are essential.
