Each January, MMUF hosts the January Program, a ten-day experiential learning program for fellows in Cape Town, South Africa. Fellows and coordinators from all MMUF member institutions are invited to apply. The January Program will only accept applications submitted by MMUF coordinators on behalf of MMUF institutions; fellows may not apply individually.  The MMUF staff at the Mellon Foundation will review all applications, including those from U.S. institutions that currently participate in exchanges with South African institutions.

Each institution’s application package must include the following:

From Coordinators:

·     A brief rationale that explains why your institution should be considered for participation in the January Program;

·     The names of fellows and coordinators from your institution who wish to apply for the program;

·     An explanation of how your program plans to cover the costs associated with this program;

·     A statement of purpose (1-2 paragraphs) describing how participation in the program will enhance your own MMUF work.

·     A completed invoice authorization form (attached; one form per institution)

·     Completed additional information forms (attached; one per student applicant)

From Fellows:

·     A statement of purpose (1-2 paragraphs) that describes the focus of your research and the ways in which a South African cross-cultural analysis will enhance that research;

·     A letter of endorsement from your Mellon mentor or mentors that explains how he or she believes your research will benefit from participation in the program.

Please submit complete applications via email to Lee Bynum (lb@mellon.org) at the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation by July 31, 2014.  Please note that neither incomplete nor late applications will be considered.

All applicants will be notified of our decisions by August 15, 2014.
