June 8 - August 13, 2022

The University of Chicago's MMUF Summer Research Training Program will take place in person from June 8 to August 13, 2022. COVID conditions permitting, the SRTP will take place in person. Below, please find further information about the SRTP from University of Chicago MMUF coordinator Elise LaRose:

This year, we encourage rising juniors and rising seniors to apply. Since we hope to restore this program as a residential one, students should plan to arrive on Wednesday, June 8, 2022. Per UChicago’s policies, all admitted who enroll into the Mellon SRTP will be required to complete the University’s COVID-19 attestation form. The attestation form affirms that the signer will comply with the University’s safety precautions and guidelines. For more information, see the University’s Health Guidelines.

Other important information on our application process:

  • Recommendations:
    • Our application expects students to submit a study and community living agreement. This agreement is to be read and signed by the student and the MMUF Program Coordinator.
    • In addition to a faculty recommendationapplicants must also secure a Community Member Recommendation. This endorsement should come from someone who has observed the applicant in an interactive, community-oriented setting. An instructor who has followed the student in a discussion-driven classroom may complete the form, but securing this endorsement from a residential staff member, religious community leader, or community service organization director would be ideal. (Students provide the contact information in the application platform for those providing this evaluation, and we send a short form directly to them.)
  • Cost: The 2022 residential SRTP will be $500/student, paid by the school, and submitted as an institutional check. Checks should be made out to The University of Chicago.
    • Please note that we will send you an invoice in late June for your admitted students’ participation. If you prefer to arrange ahead, then checks should be made out to The University of Chicago—NOTHING MORE or LESS—and should be mailed to the attention of Ms. Katherine Karvunis, Executive Associate Dean in the College for Finance & Administration. The payment mailing address is 1116 E. 59th Street, Chicago, IL 60637. Please do not send these checks to any other location or office at UChicago.
  • The 2022 SRTP will include:
    • Students earn an official transcript for two UChicago credit-bearing coursesWriting for Research and Engaged Scholarship
